Mar 06, 2016  Studio One says my track is clipping? I recorded a song on Studio One with multiple different tracks and it sounds pretty solid. I don't hear any distortion of. With Studio One 4, songwriting and arranging reach a higher level with yet another Studio One first: Harmonic Editing. Go ahead insert an instrument and start playing. When you come up with something you like, drag it to the Chord Track, which automatically detects and shows the chords you played.

I recently completed my first song, however the difference to what is sounds like out of my studio monitors on Studio One, to what is sounds like on Sound Cloud out of my regular speakers is substantial. Even compared to other songs in on Sound Cloud its very quiet and almost low on quality. What gives? I have the master volume turned up to a level to where any higher would result in static noises on Studio One (gain to high?).

This is maybe a helpful link for you to start reading and find out some things:
https://www.masteringthemix.com/blogs/learn/76296773-mastering-audio-for-soundcloud-itunes-spotify-and-youtube
I think the community needs to know some things:
- What was on your Main Faders last position?
- To which File Format did you export?
- To what ceiling did you set the Limiter before exporting?
- What about your Waveform? Can you see intact Transients or does it look like a black Wall in a
clip?
- Can you give us a link to a small Audio Demo?
This would be helpful to know, i guess so that others can help you. Maybe you just forgot to press one Button? Something happens everywhere all the time, i`m sure.
Here is small guide:
-Set your Metering to K20 before you start. This really gives good dynamic Results if you handle
with care an start making music like a pilot watching the Instruments.
- The last thing on your Master Chain should be the Limiter.
- Turn on True Peak there please.
- Before you export to MP3 set your ceiling to -1DB. Better to -1,5DB to prevent distortion once
your track is having a date with a loudness normalizer somewhere out there.

Firstly Studio One export to me sounds identical to the session playing back so in no way does an export actually sound any different. The quality of a Studio One export is not degraded in any way.
It sounds to me the OP is talking about how something is sounding playing back from a streaming site compared to hearing the mix playing back. There will always be a difference.
Mastering for a streaming site is the key here. I don't believe in mastering much during the mixdown export. Perhaps some gentle compression maybe but nothing more. I prefer to leave it a week then import that essentially unmastered mix and then get into some serious mastering, especially if it is being streamed. It is here that the whole EQ, compression and limiting thing comes into play and now a fourth element, the loudness level to which streaming sites adjust your track accordingly. It pays to actually research the various streaming sites to find out what these loudness levels actually are before they start squashing your mix.
With care a mix can be mastered to sound great on any streaming site. This is what the OP is not actually doing yet.

Hello all, thank you for the replies
As for my specs I am using Windows 10 x64, Studio One 4 Artist with a Focusrite scarlet 2i2 audio interphase, and two presonus studio monitors.
Sebastian I am not sure of my main fader position or my limiter ceiling I have never used those tools. I exported as a .wav
Here is a sample: https://soundcloud.com/far_out/song-sample/s-TyaDr
However as you can probably hear a new problem has arisen, there is a weird static noise behind the track - not sure what that's about it has never happened before.
But even without the static, compared to something like this (https://soundcloud.com/dream-fiend/stardust) it just sound so quiet and damp almost.
Any tips or help is greatly appreciated.

'A wierd static noise behind the track'.
Curious, are you playing back with something different than the scarlet 2i2?
For example, when you export to a wav file, are you hearing the Wave file with perhaps an iTunes or some player, and that player utilizes some other DAC off of your computer? This is important and very well may sound different. Check your computers default playback device.
Or, when you play back the Wav file by importing it into Studio One, do you find it is, or isn't identical? That playback should be identical, providing your input and output channel settings have not changed and remain basically static.
Outside of that, there are too many variables that can make your song sound different. Also quieter, is not uncommon, but it's all about your describing or identifying those differences. Quieter typically points to the levels. Perhaps your monitor mix is different than your playback mix.
We're sort of on the outside looking in, so take all the advise as good advise, and how you can understand what may have changed.
All things being equal, sure there shouldn't be a change, be it level or EQ difference from a mixdown export. It certainly isn't how Studio One outputs a mixdown, but you obviously know it's occurring. Be aware of your mixdown, your monitoring, your playback DAC, or comparing your music from some other source (car, friends house, different audio system, etc.).
Here's a thought. Import a professional mix you know how it sounds and you like the quality of the mix. In other words, it would be what you consider your best own mix.
Now, don't add any effects, and export the song with perhaps some added suffix like 'Post S1 test'. Are you hearing the same thing? I'd like to say you should, and you certainly should. Although it's very possible you won't, due to some of the reasons pointed out. There are a few common pitfalls.
You pretty much have to do the chasing at that point if you hear differences from the original.

I don't use soundcloud a lot these days, but i can remember when a wave-file was played back considerably quieter, than the same song uploaded as a mp3.
Don't know if this is still a thing.
